I have recently upgraded my microscope with the new illumination kit. But in some areas, I am getting this strange “X” effect. Anyone experiences something like this?
@r.w.bowman did we realise this was linked to the illumination kits?
I don’t see how that could be the illumination kit. The plastic lens is very low quality, so getting any pattern across the field of view of a high magnification lens is unlikely.
I assume that you have performed the camera colour calibration? Can you find the lens shading table and post that?
(Is this in the resleased server v2.10?)
I was pretty sure this was due to the new disk image, specifically changes to the camera pipeline in the Bookworm OS. I’ve not done a head to head comparison of the old and new illuminations though.
The effect does get worse if the image is bright, but that shouldn’t be specific to a particular illumination.
I believe the colour artifact could be corrected to some extent in post processing (and it’s already less bad in the scans than it is in the preview or individual image captures). However, I’ve not yet managed to calibrate this out neatly and in any case it will be hard to implement in the preview stream.
