A lot is happening on the software side. The biggest things are on the server, please do try the alpha release of the new OpenFlexure Server/OS
We have also updated OpenFlexure Connect! v5.0.0-beta1
Hopefully you shouldn’t notice any real difference, but it is 27 major releases newer Electron under the hood, so it should come with performance (and security) improvement. It is needed to allow us to use new javascript features.
It has taken us quite some time as there have been huge changes to how electron apps are written. Meaning that each time we left it, the work to do grew. So this is almost a total re-scaffolding of the same application.
What to expect:
Linux
I have tested the App image on Ubuntu, it works (except for an annoying need to run with --no-sandbox on Ubuntu 24.04, but this is an Ubuntu 24.04 bug)
I have not tested the snap, because I don’t like snaps. Does anyone like snaps and want to give it is a go.
Windows
I don’t own a Windows machine so it is untested. I think the EXE I create is the installer. I need to work out how to build the portable version.
macOS
We don’t have a way to compile or test macOS. If you are a macOS user and want to help with packaging/testing that would be fantastic
