I’m afraid not, we don’t have the necessary paperwork in place to ship outside the UK. Labmaker (based in Germany) will ship worldwide.
I realise they are more expensive - this is because there is a lot of overhead involved in running a business that ships internationally. We’re always looking for ways to make this cheaper, but it’s quite difficult unless you can work on a very large scale. They don’t ship lenses individually on their site, but you could always contact them and ask.
Just a tip on sourcing things …
MyUS package consolidation service can receive shipping in the UK and the US and ship anywhere (I’m in Iceland). I do find their UK international shipping to be more expensive than the US to international.
Thanks, that’s useful! It’s worth mentioning on this thread that openflexure.com is no longer active - Neither Julian nor I currently have the time to run a web shop in addition to our other jobs. We are talking to a few folk about starting this back up, nothing ready to publish yet but we will be sure to update the forum when something concrete happens. LabMaker are still, AFAIK, selling the v6 kit.
I would love to buy a kit for the v7 and I’m fine with just the o-rings + hardware (screws, bolts…). I’ve been having a tough time sourcing even the hardware here in Iceland. Super annoying to have to buy packs of bolts all the way from Amazon US and figure out that they are missing some size of screw or bolt and have to wait again for a couple of weeks. So far it’s been impossible to source m3x25mm hex bolts here as well as the o-rings, 2x6.5 tiny screws and the condenser lens. Sangaboard fortunately came with the other lens and the led pcb. The v6 kit is missing a hex bolt (only 3 in there) and maybe something else but also has some unnecessary parts…
The lens in the illumination kit is the condenser lens (assuming you got the kit from taulab.eu), not the tube lens.
If you can’t find hex bolts, put a nut at the head of a different head M3 bolt and superglue it in place. It’s far from ideal and I wouldn’t recommend it for anything where reliability is important, but if you just want a working microscope, it works. (You might need a slightly longer bolt, if you use something with a short head you can probably do 30mm with 2 nuts, but you need to check motor clearance).
This isn’t the first time a v7 bag of bits was mentioned, I did look into it, but with the small scale and the labour and risk involved, the price would be around 25 GBP (+shipping and maybe VAT), so not exactly cheap. This would be bolts, nuts, o-rings, possibly oil, and allen key, so no optics. I’m not sure if that is a price point that makes sense.
I have managed to get everything sourced and finished my first v7 microscope but it literally took me ordering multiple variety packs of various m3,m4 etc bolts and screws with different heads + o-rings, oil, lens…and shipping it through myus.com to get it to Iceland. I sourced through Amazon.com, Aliexpress and Temu…overall much more expensive than 25 GBP but I guess I now have enough HW at least for multiple scopes…
Thank you for the update! If anyone is in a similar situation, I did put together a few bags of bits to see if there’s enough interest. They are available via my taulab.eu store for 24GBP/29EUR excluding VAT and shipping,
Thanks for doing that. I didn’t need it anymore but decided to build another v7 so I just ordered another Sangaboard, illuminator and the bag of bits. FYI the payment went through but I got an error on the payment part of your store…I tried reaching you through the Contact Us form but that also gave an error…
Thank you, I just sent you an email with more info. I tested the contact form just now and it worked for me so I’m not sure what went wrong there, either SumUp was having some issues at the time or it could be adblocker or another javascript issue (but it works with uBlock).
Ah…I have an ad blocker. Pi Hole. Will check email
