Optical tweezers build with OpenFlexure

Hi everyone,

We’ve been working on an extension optical tweezers setup and just put together a video walkthrough that might be of interest here:

We’ve been using the fantastic OpenFlexure platform as the basis of the setup – it really is an awesome tool. Huge thanks to everyone involved in developing and maintaining it, it’s an amazing piece of work. :green_heart:

In our build, we added a few small modifications that might be useful for others in the future, for example:

  • some alignment steps that could be handy for similar imaging setups,

  • A relatively well controlled laser holder and a small “cube” module that may be reusable in other projects.

We knew, of course, that the dichroics are meant to be at 45°, but we were a bit suspicious about whether the printed fl_cube was really sitting at exactly 45° :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: So we adjusted things slightly while still keeping everything flex and compatible with the existing design.

It’s indeed a very small set of add-ons, but I thought it was still worth sharing here in case it’s useful or sparks ideas.

Happy to share more details and answer any questions!
All the best, Ali
